It's the existence as water of the contents of the glass that correspond to the existence as energy (or mass-energy) of things like e+e- pairs and photons, not its mass. The "solidness" of ice corresponds to the "solidness" of ordinary matter. My point is, "solidness" (of either ice or energy as "ordinary" matter) is NOT a property that is conserved, but the TOTAL amount (of water, or energy) IS. No need for stupid make-up words like "mather", we already have a term for this, it's "energy". And the obsolete "aether" concept is simply not needed, what you want to call "aether" is simply energy that doesn'r exist in the form of rest mass. Which is funny, the original "aether" was proposed as a medium for the transport of energy (light), not the energy itself.

The 'ice' is matter. The 'water' is aether. What we are discussing is E=mc^2. As the mather expands from matter to aether the increase in volume of the mather is energy. Some of this energy is given of as waves in the aether which when detected collapse and are detected as quanta of aether (photons).
