Once upon a time, in Macromedia's hands it was one of the better games in town. Video snuck in via Sorenson and Actionscript has smothered itself in feature bloat. Flash is now an obese teenager and needs an ASBO. On Mac, the Flash runtime has always been a resource pig, even before video. It did once have pretensions of being reasonably secure, but even in Macromedia's hands that was weakened more than somewhat. I think they held the attitude than only half as bad as ActiveX was an acceptable point to aim at.
