Thats friends Macs, faamily, people I work with, you name it. It worked on all of them so I have to say that if this is really a problem with Preview its really pretty rare.

Then there is something about these computers that is similar between all of them (file systems, OS configurations, etc.). It's probably some change you made to all of them that is not part of the default setup. Tell me, if you go to your nearest Apple store, does it work on one of the computers there? : ) Just because you made a change that shows some obscure bug doesn't mean everyone else on the planet will be affected. -- Send responses to the relevant news group rather than email to me. It's probably some change Erik made to his own machines. He's the only person who knows what that might be. -- Send responses to the relevant news group rather than email to me. Hell, at my daughters school they have iMacs in classrooms and all students have MacBooks they use at home for assignments. She and the rest use Preview all the time. I know my daughters MacBook has no problem with this because I just tried it myself and she says she never heard about anyone else having trouble.

What really gets me about Erik is that he has a history of making claims like this, and he always turns it around into an attack on the rest of us, as if our lack of observing a problem as somehow our failure. When a client contacts me about a problem I'm not familiar with, I always try it on my own Macs whenever possible, to see if it's reproducible here. If it is, I tell the client I'm seeing the same problem here, then research to see if it's occurring elsewhere and whether there's any solution or workaround available. Sometimes I have to tell the client it's a bug and there's nothing to do except file a report and wait for a fix or find a workaround. If I'm unable to reproduce the client's problem on my own Macs, though, and I don't see reports of that problem elsewhere, I know it's a local problem for the client. Under those circumstances, have I fixed the problem 100% of the time? Of course not, but I'm confident enough in making appointments that I won't charge the client if I say I can fix something I'm then unable to. In close to 16 years of doing this, I think I've lost perhaps a dozen billable hours this way. Erik, I have NEVER encountered the problem you describe, have never read about it anywhere but in this thread. If you want to become a client, I'll make you the same promise - I'll fix the problem or you won't have to pay. I'll get Photoshop Elements 2.0 to run under Tiger, too, while I'm at it. -- Favorite yoga position: Rosh hashavasana, the high holy pose Mac and geek T-shirts & gifts <http://designsbymike.net/shop/mac.cgi> Prius shirts/bumper stickers <http://designsbymike.net/shop/prius.cgi> |
