Display Problem I have only a partial description of the problem because the computer belongs to a friend who lives in another state. We were going to visit there for Super Bowl weekend, during which I was going to troubleshoot, but instead we're hunkering down at home during a blizzard. My friend has an early 17" (2GHz?) i... 12 Feb 2010 21:20

Display compatibility I have a third party display,(V7 branded I think), running at 1440 x 900 on my Intel Mac Mini. The quality is only fair. I'm checking out an HP 2009m 20 which has a stated resolution of 1600 x 900. Will this work well with Macs? We're talking 1.7:1 for the new display opposed to 1.6:1 for the old. ... 5 Feb 2010 17:19

However, this morning, my attempt to "wake" the system (via mouse or keystrokes) didn't work. Puzzled, I force-rebooted via the power button... 5 Feb 2010 11:40
Using the shell, is my Mac 32-bit or 64-bit? I looked in System Profiler but there was no obvious way to determine this. Someone suggested 'uname -a' -- I tried it -- it didn't reveal anything on a 2006 Xserve or a 2008 iMac. Of course, I suppose I could find this and still be uncertain due to the distinction of being "fully" 64-bit. So where is it and how... 4 Feb 2010 17:58

Suddenly slowed down Internet I have two Macbook Pros in the house, one (my wife's) of which is nearly 4 years old, has OS 10.5.8 and is nicely and normally loading web pages from my wireless router. It sits about 25 feet through a wall or two from the router. My fairly new MacBook Pro (OS 10.6.1) is about 18 inches from the router and has, for... 2 Feb 2010 22:00
