Thats fine. Please list the makes of cameras which will connect to the
iPad via WiFi

While you are at it: Please provide a comprehensive list of storage
devices which will hook to the iPad via WiFi.
They should naturally be small enough to be portable. Around the size of
SD-cards will do just fine

Oh, and newspapers telling apple to take a hike is absolutely fine also

And that is what is actually happening right now

any camera with an eye-fi card, any nikon or canon dslr with a wifi
attachment, and there are some compact digicams with wifi too, with
more coming in the future.

any network attached storage on a wifi network. heck, the entire
internet is a storage device. there's even a dropbox app as well. there
are also dozens of apps that can turn an ipad into a wireless hard
drive. ipads can also do peer to peer over bluetooth or wifi.

Translation: Nothing exists which you can simply carry around.

Why exactly would you need an iPad then?

Yes. You can carry your iPad around in a little case with all the
peripherals. Or buy trousers with very big pockets to keep all the junk you
need to carry around.
