I have a client who has both, and I haven't figured out why.

Do a little homework on today's announcements. Apple specifically states
that the 3G support is unlocked with support for carriers that offer GSM
micro SIM cards.

Possibly for the same reason my wife and I each have both an iPhone and
an iPod Touch. Because we _want_ one of each.

It never occurred to me that we might need a reason beyond that, any
more than we feel the need to justify having six Macs in regular
(meaning daily) use in our home. (They are 15 and 17" MB Pros; two
Intel iMacs, including a new 27" 8GB/2TB; one PowerBook G4; and one
nicely equipped Dual G5.)

it's the next generation sim card. it does more and takes up less
space. presumably future phones will use them. it wouldn't surprise me
if the next iphone used one too.
