I didn't mean to cause trouble, I'm just curious since the iPhone does
everything the iPod touch does and more. I'd be interested to know how
you decide which one to use or take with you.

Meanwhile, the client I mentioned lives alone in a house that's quite
luxurious but not particularly large and has three aluminum iMacs, two
Mac Book Pros, a MacBook Air, the aforementioned iPhone and touch, and a
Kindle. I'll be shocked if he's not my first client to buy an iPad.

Quick trip to the store or shopping: iPhone only because some kind of
mobile phone has somehow become a necessity.

Leisurely trip to a not-fancy restaurant/diner for breakfast or lunch:
iPhone _and_ iPod Touch. I can do what I want with my iPod, especially
do crosswords and read Kindle books and other material, use my
astronomy software to do some research or planning, study technical
documentation in PDF format (GoodReader) without discharging the iPhone
battery.

The iPod Touch will frequently be replaced by the iPad in future.

I don't even think the data plan will support sms, unless it goes
through the internet. The iPas is not a phone at it will not have a
phone number.

Look at the 3G iPad as a laptop with a 3G stick plugged into one of the
usb ports. Of course without the annoying keyboard - annoying when not
sitting at a proper table.

It's a bad choice when reading a good novel in bed ... or watching an
episode of Rome ...
