Wireless vs wired speeds? With all my testing recently, I'm very puzzled by discrepancies in speeds between using wired and wireless networking. I realise that wireless issn't as good as wired in the main, however, the disrepancy just can't be explained by that, can it? I have 10/100 Ethernet or a selection of wireless protocols to use.... 14 Jun 2010 08:26
DNLA Software I recently bought a Blu-ray player (LG 590 I think) and found it works with a Mac Mini to serve video. Not sure why I would want to do this apart from upscaling and taking some of the load off the CD Mini for trickier video files. On a quiet day it could replace the Mini. Anyway, DNLA software support is only ... 28 Jun 2010 03:02
iCal published calendars Until now, I haven't found a good use for the shared calendars people publish for iCal (I've merely, and rather lamely, subscribed to one for UK bank holidays). But I've have found a Tour de France 2010 calendar (<http://icalshare.com/calendars/4577>) which will tell me when I can safely be away from my desk to... 13 Jun 2010 10:29
NAS options...? I've been messing about and reorganising my hard drive layout over the last couple of days. I got an NAS box off eBay, but didn't realise that it wouldn't work with Time Machine :-(. No problem, I've now broken down my large two of drives into separate boxes, and had a spare SATA-UBB/FW bridge. I cobbled up that bo... 13 Jun 2010 07:13
Firefox problem FF 3.6.3 in OS 10.4.11. I downloaded the Flash 10.1 security update and installed it. Everything works fine except that now, if I want to store a page url (with Cmd-D or using the menu item) instead of storing it, it offers to delete the url (and does so if I go ahead). I can't see how to get back to the origi... 12 Jun 2010 17:06

Just seen keynote...nice product, but the keynote? Hmm. He does go on a bit, doesn't he? That whole thing would have been much better at one hour long tops. Maybe I'm just becoming jaded, but it really did seem very dragged out. On the plus side, Apple at least got the podcast feed right for the first time in about a year. Cheers, Ian ... 14 Jun 2010 06:16

iPad I dropped into Cardiff's Apple store on the way home from work this afternoon to have a look at the iPads. My immediate thought was: they're smaller than I imagined - I expected them to be about A4 size. They are lovely little devices. I was trying to find a reason for owning one, but I had to admit that I don... 15 Jun 2010 06:31
O2 to scrap unlimited data Others to follow. Although of course, there's unlimited and then there's unlimited. A victim of their own success (or rather, the customers are the victims of their success?) I find this hard to believe: "O2 has said that the changes will affect just 3% of its 21m customers, who will have to pay additional ... 12 Jun 2010 19:20 |
