The analysis, conducted by NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS) in New York City, also shows that in the Southern Hemisphere, 2009 was the warmest year since modern records began in 1880. "Although 2008 was the coolest year of the decade — due to strong cooling of the tropical Pacific Ocean — 2009 saw a return to near-record global temperatures. The past year was only a fraction of a degree cooler than 2005, the hottest year on record, and tied with a cluster of other years — 1998, 2002, 2003, 2006 and 2007 — as the second warmest year since recordkeeping began". They are now floating right next to each other. The new iceberg is 48 miles (78 kilometers) long and about 24 miles (39 kilometers) wide and holds roughly the equivalent of a fifth of the worlds annual total water usage, Young told The Associated Press.

No, I don't think deniers are into "error bars" But in Hansen et al's extensive article http://pubs.giss.nasa.gov/docs/2007/2007_Hansen_etal_2.pdf page 11 talks about a 1C error in matching paleo temperatures with modern temperatures. From what I read I think this a fair estimate. We only know accurately what has occurred recently. We can identify periods temperature wise approximately. Have you any information on this subject? You strike me as an arm-chair denier and you don't go and look for information, especially if you don't want that information. But it is common sense, proxies are not superaccurate. |
