1-wire specification
I am using a DS2438 as a battery monitor. The app notes recommend a series 330 ohm in the DQ line for static protection. The data sheet shows 4k7 as the master pull up resistor. I have a Link45 serial to 1-wire interface and the cooms does not work. A quick check shows a 1k bus pull up. So the 330 ohm is not al... 15 Jan 2010 14:57
More on Intel's LightPeak (c)
More on Intel's LightPeak (c): http://techresearch.intel.com/articles/None/1813.htm The movie is nice. They are ready to go into production now it seems, and the LightPeak optical interface is simply an optional part of the new USB-3 connectors. More on that in German, with pictures of the USB-3 connectors wi... 12 Jan 2010 08:09
Released under GPL2: An 8051-8052 2 pass assembler for the Linux OS.
Released under GPL2: An 8051-8052 2 pass assembler for the Linux OS. http://panteltje.com/panteltje/newsflex/a52-2.0.tgz This is a very simple assembler, and has less features then all the big macro ones. But it has one feature all other ones do not have as far as I know: It can generate binary output in MCS-52 ... 12 Jan 2010 08:09
Power supply poor performance.
I tried my hand at making a 9V power supply with an MC34063A. I get the correct DC voltage output but was disappointed with the very dirty output. I know that, in general, simple switched-mode PSes have poorer performance than linear types, but what I observed was worse than I expected from the sample circuit g... 11 Jan 2010 06:29
Splitting sync-on-green video signal
Hi. How could one make an electronic circuit that would split the green signal from a "sync on green" source (like what comes out of some types of computers) into the green, horizontal, and vertical sync components individually? ... 13 Jan 2010 23:18
Plasma Soldering SMDs
Hi, I mentioned to a friend that I was reluctant to take on a project requiring hand soldering a number of SMDs. He suggested plasma soldering is now used because it heats faster so less heat travels to the package. I couldn't find much about the units other than they are used for lead-free solder. Is pla... 13 Jan 2010 09:49

Thin / metal film resistors
I notice that Susumu make really cheap metal film resistors - maybe 5 cents in one-off quantities. Do these have inferior noise performance compared to expensive metal film ones from manufacturers like Tyco? I realise they may have a worse tempco. Thank you, -- Nemo ... 11 Jan 2010 13:08

ULN2803 ok to be driven by 3.3V logic?
Gents, Have to drive a bucket full of 12V relays but the uC is only 3.3V. The ULN2803 is touted as a driver for 5V TTL logic by most companies (like TI) but datasheets hint that it can happily live down to around 3V drive level. Is that kosher? http://focus.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/uln2803a.pdf http://www.tos... 11 Jan 2010 13:08
