As I said, flash is great for some things (games etc) where there is nothing that does what it does. For adverts there are blockers for it, so it is not so bad in that. If adobe had put some effort into security it would be a bit better. > Back to my OP... the tools (apart from flash) used to create the > animation are... ? What other tools would there be apart from flash? Well, something to make some of the individual graphics, but you can use anything for that. -- Woody www.alienrat.com

I can't think of any occasion when I would want to see Flash on a website. Very occasionally there are things that can be best explained by animation, but an optional animated GIF seems to cover that. > > Your approach is deliberately limiting, I think excessively so. Yes. Some people still use the Web to get information, not to have unwanted 'entertainment' thrust upon them. It's not a hatred of Flash per se. it's a hatred of Flash being foist upon the user when it's neither needed nor wanted. > Flash is a tool, if it works and is right for the message delivery and > the targeted audience... use it! ....and if it doesn't - don't! Perhaps you can afford to lose a few customers; but if you can't, the website needs to work both with and without Flash. -- ~ Adrian Tuddenham ~ (Remove the ".invalid"s and add ".co.uk" to reply) www.poppyrecords.co.uk

I use Firefox with the Flashblock extension (and some other controls for other annoying intrusions). Flash doesn't play here unless I give the word. Wow! All that totally invented bollocks! Of course it still exists... By which I mean your totally invented bollocks. No hatred, sonny boy, no hatred. Just a calm grown-up technical decision made by a calm grown-up technical person on calm grown-up technical grounds, that's Adrian's decision. Adrian doesn't do Flash, that's all (so it seems...). Blocking Flash does not mean you're a hair-shirt type only using Lynx and refusing to eschew plain text. btw, Adrian's own Website is a multimedia affair - I've recently downloaded some of the media files he has available. [snip] Rowland. P.S. This is *NOT* me leaping to Adrian's defence - he doesn't need that or want that - this is me trying to help a child learn to think. -- Remove the animal for email address: rowland.mcdonnell(a)dog.physics.org Sorry - the spam got to me http://www.mag-uk.org http://www.bmf.co.uk UK biker?
