PC fans don't change speed. At least not so that I have ever been able
to notice. So unless I look at my desktop CPU meter I can't detect any
difference. I can't help thinking that the change in noise and your
emotive language (thrashing) means that this particular aspect of a
Macs behaviour is having an undesirable psychological effect. A CPU
has no moving parts - it cannot thrash. TTBOMK Flash has never
crashed a machine I have used nor any of the students' machines in my
five years teaching IT. As far as I am concerned the capacity of my
CPU is there to be used, what's the point in having it otherwise?
Flash may well be a security risk but it can't be that much of a
security risk because the vast majority of internet users use it quite
happily.

Likewise Javascript and particularly AJAX have improved the browsing
experience no end.

But by all means continue wearing your hair shirt if it makes you feel
better.

And that would give you what? A more complex way of doing the same
thing?

As I said.

Code reliability in this case covers security. I haven't had any
crashing flash, as if it crashes it just doesn't work.

Never had any bad effects from crashing.

If you are daft enough, you can do anything. Small bitmaps with hexedit
are easy enough.

What PC have you got that doesn't control its fan speed? Presumably
nothing made in the last 20 years!

And neither have I.

They most certainly do. Or, at least, every PC I've used that was made in
the last 3 or 4 years can alter fan speeds. I've got a Fujitsu behind me
that sounds like a hovercraft at times, then calms down.
