From: Graham McKechnie on 13 Sep 2006 14:47 Eric, I'm not sure what you are trying to prove by attempting to call me a troll. You seem to have a fixation about people who are here that are ex VO'ers. I've never tried to hide the fact that I bolted from the VO stable the moment .Net and C# arrived some years back. At the time VO could not do what I needed to do, so I didn't have much choice. 3-4 years down the track, VO still can't do what I need to do, so I feel I was entirely justified in making that decision. I really can't imagine why you would have a problem with that. I presented you with a couple of simple arguments. 1. A VOer needs to join Brian's exclusive club thingy, if he wants to keep programming in VO or Vulcan. There just isn't any realistic support, if you don't do this. See Carlos's comments here. 2. The club idea just does not wash with any big IT departments. 3. It was therefore an ill thought out marking move on Grafx's part. 4. You guys persisting with this strategy in my opinion have lost your marbles. If you don't agree with any of the above, then by all means present your counter arguments if you wish to participate. If you are going to participate then please stick to the facts and leave the emotion out of it. Last time you engaged me, you went off on a tangent for a couple of days about some VO trivia question about release dates, which only proved that you are indeed the "king" of VO trivia questions. I do have a problem with someone who says goodbye to VO but not to this newsgroup and who's contributions are negative ones. > > I presented you with a couple of simple arguments. > > 1. See Carlos's comments here If you want support for my products, yo need to subscribe to a supportprogram too. If you want to program in Vulcan, you can get an subscription wth beta releases or you will have to wait until it comes out. I really can't imagine why you would have a problem with that. .. > 2. The club idea just does not wash with any big IT departments. You cannot say this for all big IT departments. The VOPS holds softwarehouses with over 10 VO developers. > 3. It was therefore an ill thought out marking move on Grafx's part. Nope, it is a succes, ask any other VOPS member. > 4. You guys persisting with this strategy in my opinion have lost your > marbles. Erik, > You should come to the SDE www.sdn.nl/sde ... It's not english !!! ?? We will have 30 sessions, and at least 12 will be in English. But you are right. most sessions (3 out of 5) will be in Dutch. Can't blame a Dutch user group for having Dutch sessions if the speaker is Dutch. But i do have news, in december we will have another SDE and then 4 out of 5 VO/Vulcan sessions will be in English. regards, Erik

Eric, > Well it is, but you have to take a subscription for it. That is not very > uncommen, my customers have a support contract to and they pay for updates > and fixes. Thats what many people object to Erik, paying a subscription for bug fixes. If you actually get away with charging your customers for bug fixes, you must have some pretty dumb customers. You state that it is a common practice. I don't remember paying MS for fixes to Visual Studio or Sql Server etc. Services packs have always been a no charge item from MS. Another point is that they do come regularly from MS. > And people going to conferences have advantages above people not going to > conferences. If this would change, there will not go a lot people to > conferences, don't you think? Pretty mute point - not too many people go to VO conferences these days. You'd probably only have to book one of the lifts these days. >> I hope I'm wrong because I like VO, but this NG is shrinking every >> passing day, and that's bad for VO and Vulcan future > Perhaps it is the time of the year. Is this the official VOers holiday period or something? It's pretty simple Erik, there is no one here anymore, because so few people still use the product. > Most answers to the questions can be found googling in this newsgroup > and/or digging the SDK. That sort of answer would really make a potential newbie really feel warm and fuzzy.
