Wow. Does that kneejerk hurt when it goes off like that?

The point is that everyone already *is* free to make their own
choices from the options available to them. Always have been, always
will be. Most people believe their range of choices is limited by
familial, peer or societal pressures or whatever. Some believe they
are free to make any choice they want, regardless of any consequences.

(And there are always consequences. I mean, you *did* notice you're
xposting to sci.physics, right?)

What *I* think it comes down to is that society can not function if
we are not held directly responsible for the consequences of our
choices *as they affect others*. You can call that punishment if you
like, but even in alt.religion.kibology, where the only real rule is

*You're Allowed*

it's possible to be shunned for some behaviors.

That's only if you're not considered worthy of mockery, of course.

Anyway.

AFAICT SkyEyes' position is that a woman deciding to have an
abortion does not "affect others". I may be wrong in that, but that's
what I get.

My position is that a fetus *is* an "other" who should not be
subjected to the consequences of one's choices without recourse.

What's yours?

Sigh. All this time and you didn't look in the Obvious Bag.

it is exactly the point.

If you aren't pregnant, you don't need to consider having an
abortion, now do you?

Americans have the right to arm bears.
But don't arm a cross bear!

There is no evidence for your belief.

But the fact remains that unwanted pregnancies do happen, they have
always happened, and they will continue to happen, so how is that
relevant to the discussion about the right to chose to abort? Such
pregnancies can be reduced by proper education, birth control/condoms,
etc......but they are never going away.
