After refilling, the ink outlet should be sealed and there should be some tape over the air vent on top like when you buy a new one. I've never used the tricolor cart, but the bci-6 and bci-3ebk carts have tape you remove and other plastic tape you leave on the top. After refilling I put some tape over the air vent until I'ml ready to use it and I then take only the tape off just as I would for a new OEM cart.

Well, even if you knew the particular model well, most people wouldn't know the reset utility well. Yes, Tony is a good guy, very helpful, as you and Burt and others are, and he knows how the utility works, but so far, it hasn't worked, but it may be that myprinter cannot be reset or I am doing something I shouldn't or not doing something I should. There are not many commands to do, but has to be exact, and my printer is showing up as MPUSBPRN01. I used to have the Canon BJC2100 connected and it was USB01, but when I installed the Pixma ip1500 it was assigned to MPUSBPRN01 and maybe thats how it got that odd name. What is MP? I don't have the BJC 2100 connected to the computer but maybe it still has USB01, though its been removed from my system a while back. Whatever the case, the ip1500 has been assigned to MPRUSBPRN01 and prints from there ok, so the utility should work with that port being named, and the utility works ok with that port, but when I click on other commands in the utility, nothing happens. I will get back to Tony and see what further ideas he might have. Oh, I didn't know thats what you meant. I thought you meant the an extra set of new carts when refilled that you are not going to use right away, for thats what we were talking about I thought. > After refilling, the ink outlet > should be sealed and there should be some tape over the air vent on top like > when you buy a new one. Do you mean the first time you are refilling after you buy new carts from the store? The tri color carts from Staples compatibles or Canons don't have any plastic tape on them. They just have the hard orange plastic clips that clip over the colors or black carts. There is no tape. I can't remember about Epson carts if they had tape or not on the bottom where the color comes out after they were refilled. I think they did and were sealed in a small plastic bag. At least that's the way the bci-6 and bci-3 carts work. Yes, it would be convenient to have an extra set so you don't have to run to the store the minute one runs out. If you are going to have a cart refilled when you have emptied it that is the time you need to keep it from drying out. Do the refillers in your area replace a cap on the bottom or plastic wrap the whole cart so the ink outlet doesn't get dried out?
