It depends on the method they send, whether small packet or Global priority small or medium packet which are more money than small packet. I've received packages from the US from individuals but not companies. All the ones I got were small packet which is up to 2 lbs or something. I checked the International calculator which refers you to USPS site, and you would need to know approx. weight of package that was being sent and that goes by how many cartridges. I found the cartridges shipping a bit confusing on the MSI site. I couldn't figure out how much shipping price is which has to be calculated in. I don't know how Canada deals with import > duty, but you might be able to find out by contacting the proper government > office and describing the items you will import (computer printer ink) and > approximate value (probably less than $50 US.) I don't need to contact them I used to work there and know how it works. I also have had stuff sent to me from the US from individuals when I used to buy a few things here and there from Ebay. We have very measly Customs exemptions - if anything over $18.00 US, we pay no duty from the US but pay 15% Ontario tax which is two taxes. We pay that here too for domestic purchases except food. You don't have to think about things like that because your exemption is something like $200.00 before you have to pay any tax. And our dollar is high against the US dollar for the last year or so. $1 US =.87 cents Can. But just for example, $50.00 US = $57.50 Can. plus 15% = $66.12 Can. plus say shipping of $6.00 US =$6.90 Can.plus $5.00 for Canada Post "handling" fee as they collect money for Customs, so now total is around $73.12. But I don't know how many cartridges $50.00 would buy but just an example. I don't need any right now. I bought 5 black carts at Staples onsale last week for $2.00 Can. each - thats about $1.80 US. You won't beat that price anywhere, and color for $15.00 Can.. For all I know, the refurb printer may not last long and I will have a bunch of carts I don't need, but if they are Staples, at least I can take them back, if within 30 days. Without bothering with Canada Customs who would likely charge tax though sometimes they let the package go, but you can't count on it, I think I could buy compatibles cheaper at Atlantic inkjet online, a Canadian company and another one in Canada somebody on the NG maybe Zak mentioned somebody else. I will have to look for it. This thread is so long now I can't find anything. I save messages I need to answer, or would never find them again :) > Another vendor that has the cartridge for your printer is Weink. The link is > > http://www.weink.com/ecom/catalog/responsible_brand_bci-21_24_cartridges_for_canon_2772383.htm I checked that one but I couldn't find any shipping costs. That has to be included. > I'd encourage you to consider trying the inksupply.com product. They are so inexpensive that it would be worth a try. I will check out Canadian online ink sites and see what they charge for compatibles. The US site would have to be much cheaper to make it worth my while, since it is much more convenient to buy carts online in Canada , as long as the carts are good quality of course. Maybe MSI will be cheaper. I don't know. It is something I will have to check. > By the time you need to replace this printer the ip4200 may have compatable > carts and you can move up somewhat in class of printers and get your > supplies down to a lower cost. Yes, the 4200 might eventually get compatibles. The Ip1500 carts are quite cheap at Staples, though but of course they are thimbles as you all say :) Mary

I know about Atlantic Inkjet but what is it like and are there others just as good ? Mary

My i320 never had any sensors fixed to or otherwise detecting >the condition of the waste ink pad, and I doubt and other lower end printer >would either. Gary The issue that Mary has been trying to overcome is that the Canon service programme will not reset either of the waste ink counters. The message that the printer is reporting is "Waste ink absorber almost full" (or similar). I know that at some time it will read "Waste ink absorber full" and prevent printing altogether. I am guessing (only speculation) that it will not permit reset until the Full message is posted. I agree that here is no sensor in or on the pads in this or any other inkjet I am aware of, the condition of the waste pads is an estimate. The service manual indicates that the resets are available when the Full message is posted it does not mention the Almost Full condition. We know that the utility has correctly identified the printer, it is a simple utility with very few options and selecting either of the reset options (for each pad) does nothing but it reports correct information about the printer. The service manual gives clear instructions on the use of the utility so either the utility does not work or Mary's printer is unable to be reset for some unknown reason or the reset only works only when the full, as opposed to almost full, message is posted. Tony knows more about that. Upon re-reading what I said above, I think the utility was probably ok. It was the same one you gave the URL for in one of your posts (IP 1500 tool), but for some unknown reason it didn't clear the absorbers, though it identified my printer correctly and the USB port seemed ok as I typed in a couple of other things like USB01 and it just said not valid or something but it accepted MPUSBPRN01. What does the MP at the beginning of the USB port mean? Mary *** Posted via a free Usenet account from http://www.teranews.com *** |
