From: Geoff Schaller on 20 Sep 2006 18:37 Marc, We sell one product by annual subscription so support is a built in part of the program. Our other clients pay for maintenance and updates as they request them. Our box products come with free support and a free long distance telephone support line so we embrace all three maintenance models. From: Marc Verkade [Marti IT] on 20 Sep 2006 18:48 Thanx for sharing this. Free support and long distance line? Doesn't that cost you lots of money. Does support mean new features and bugfixes as well? (NOT cynical, just curious!) From: Ginny Caughey on 20 Sep 2006 18:49 Geoff, Ok that's what I thought. My goal is different - I intend to convert all my production VO code to .NET. Probably I will still have some legacy VO code to maintain in VO in the future just as I now have a little Clipper code I still maintain, but I expect the time will come that I will dread working on it just as I do with the old Clipper stuff now. -- Ginny "Geoff Schaller" <geoff(a)xxxsoftwareobjectives.com.au> wrote in message news:4511bcb1$1(a)dnews.tpgi.com.au... > Ginny, > > If you've been reading any of my posts it would have been thoroughly clear > that we are not converting anything. From: Geoff Schaller on 20 Sep 2006 18:55 Marc, No it doesn't. As you are aware, Australia is a big place and many of our customers are over 1000km away, some up to 4000km so to telephone us would cost them a lot. The phone companies here provide a service that for about $60 per month (we pay), allows our clients to call us for the price of a local for 15 minutes. After that, we pay the additional call costs at the normal rate. Most calls can be attended to within 15 mins - most are about 5 mins so it is quite cost effective for everyone. There are of course all sorts of variations on this service but it allows us to advertise free telephone support and this is very attractive to our clients. Hello Heiko, I'm also a member of VOPS, but they told me, when I leave VOPS and the release of Vulcan or VO 2.8 is not ready, I have the right to get it without paying, when it is ready.
